Yps wrap Nestlé’s widest cereal multipack

Creating the world’s widest-ever cereal multipack for a promotional Nestlé campaign using shrink film.

At the end of July 2022, a novel idea for a promotional campaign was taking shape at Nestlé Towers. The world’s largest food and beverage company was looking for our help in an ambitious challenge to create the world’s widest-ever cereal multipack using shrink film. Intrigued? So were we. Here, we outline exactly how team YPS helped bring this bonkers project to life across the global brand’s social ads, reels, and feeds.

The challenge

Nestlé wanted to show off its extremely wide selection of cereals with no red traffic light nutrition symbols, showcasing healthier choices for hungry Brits in a striking visual manner. As part of its ‘More Choice, Less Worry’ campaign, the team’s marketing masterminds concocted a plan to create an inspired breakfast line-up - in more ways than one.

To present the huge breadth of breakfast choices in its range and instill confidence in cereal-eaters, Nestlé’s team wanted to create the biggest variety pack of cereals the world had ever seen. With 18 boxes to wrap, that would make the multipack a trolley-busting 3.5m wide - and it needed to be spotted easily in print, digital and social advertising. Say no more…

Our solution

With Nestlé already an existing and long-standing customer, YPS was no stranger to the brand’s wrapping needs - including multipack wrapping for Costco cereal offers and pallet wrapping. But this time, there were 18 boxes to wrap, totalling 3.5 metres of cerealsly wide packaging. Our engineer George expertly took to the job using a Hugo Beck[1]  Flexo X side sealer machine and a network of infeed conveyors, designed to get the best from polyolefin film. This versatile sealing process was coupled with our thinnest 9-micron BTT +90[2]  polyolefin shrink film, which is 100% recyclable, made up of 30% recycled content, and food contact approved. Extra metres, super strength, and optics improving finish - all with enhanced environmental benefits. Win, win, win.

The result

Our final wrapping was perfect for the presentation requirement of the world’s widest multi-pack, which demanded high shine and excellent optics for digital promotion. The high clarity shown in Nestlé’s ads also proves that recyclable wrapping doesn’t have to compromise on aesthetics.

Since launching the campaign in October 2022, Nestlé's bumper cereal pack has been the highlight of many a Facebook Ad, Insta reel, blog article, and newsflash, garnering a lot of love from die-hard Nestlé fans. The brand has even had to add a disclaimer to its ads, explaining the fictional multi-pack concept is not set to be created in real life. Sure, we could create it, but it would never fit in anyone’s car, or cupboards!
