A Packaging Makeover For Lakeland Cosmetics
We’ve recently supplied a new stretch wrapping system at Lakeland Cosmetics, based at Workington in the Lake District.
Lakeland Cosmetics are a family-run producer of high-quality beauty and personal care products such as cosmetics, facepaints, pet grooming items and hand sanitisers. Their wide array of products are stocked by many major fashion and grocery brands including ASOS, Superdrug, Missguided, Prettylittlething, B&M, Amazon and Ebay. These retailers choose Lakeland because of their commitment to using locally sourced ingredients, such as water from the Lakes situated around their home in Cumbria, their kind-to-skin vegan formulas and their refusal to test on animals.
Lakeland Cosmetics have experienced a five-year period of sustained growth which has seen production quadruple. This was coupled in 2020 with a surge in demand for the company’s hand sanitiser products and antibacterial hand gels triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Lakeland Cosmetics sought to quickly improve the capacity, speed and efficiency of their pallet wrapping processes to meet this skyrocketing demand, approaching us for a solution.
As Lakeland supply many different sizes of hand sanitisers, ranging from 5 litre bulk dispensing bottles to 50ml squeeze bottles, the dimensions of each stacked pallet can vary significantly. With this in mind, we recommended the Masterwrap HD Plus XL rotating arm pallet wrapper which can accept any pallet width and height. It can also cater to the very heaviest pallets of sanitiser because they remain motionless whilst being wrapped, ensuring stability and load containment. Boasting a stretch capacity of up to 250%, the Masterwrap helps reduce film consumption by getting more coverage from each and every roll of pallet wrap film, saving costs and materials. Plus, with speeds of up to 11 rotations per minute, the stretch wrapper makes light work of busy despatch schedules, ideal for growing businesses like Lakeland Cosmetics.
Since installation, Lakeland have reported increased efficiency in their Goods Out department as well as a reduction in damage to products during transit. They are particularly pleased with the included service contract which offers them discounts on spare parts and a programme of preventative maintenance to keep their machinery running at peak performance.
Lee Dobinson, Owner of Lakeland Cosmetics states ‘Like many other personal care companies in 2020, COVID stretched our packaging capacities significantly and we knew we had to automate the process to meet demand. YPS understood the challenges surrounding our heavy loads and varying pallet sizes, recommending a rotating arm model that suited us perfectly.’
YPS Sales Manager, Larne Patrick, said ‘I’d like to thank Lakeland Cosmetics for trusting YPS with their packaging operation at a critical time in their business. I wish them all the best for the future as they go from strength to strength.’
