A custom-built pallet wrapper with an extended mast proved the perfect blend for one legendary coffee producer. The unique pallet wrapper was supplied following a partnership between YPS, manufacturers Robopac and the UK branch of the international coffee specialists.
The challenge – tall & heavy pallets
The coffee producer’s pallets of chilled coffee cups can be up to 2.2m in height and can weigh up to 250 Kgs.
Standard pallet wrappers are simply not tall enough to handle such tall pallets. In addition, a turntable-style pallet wrapper is unsuitable as the height and weight of the pallet can make it unstable as it spins, leading to an uneven and unbalanced wrapped pallet.
The solution – customised rotating arm wrapper
A bespoke pallet wrapper was manufactured, based on a standard Masterwrap rotary arm model, however the mast was extended to a non-standard 2.4m height.
The new pallet wrapper offers a huge upgrade on the company’s previous older machinery. As well as comfortably wrapping the high pallets it delivers:
- Stability of wrap for unstable and heavy pallets, as the wrapping arm moves around the pallet rather than the pallet being rotated.
- A significant increase in wrapping speed.
- Improved pallet containment, with adjustable settings ensuring that the perfect wrap can be programmed.
- Reduced plastic usage from continual monitoring, allowing adjustments and improvements to be made. This fits well with the coffee producer’s drive toward carbon neutrality.
- Ease of use for the warehouse operatives, with a simple to learn, interactive, digital HMI.
