New Standard in large shrink wrap machinery
Yorkshire Packaging Systems Ltd has recently installed the country’s largest Rochman automatic inline sleeve wrapper into the Hull-based factory of American Standard.
American Standard, home of leading brands such as Armitage Shanks, Ideal Standard and Trevi to name just a few, is the world’s premier producer of bathroom products.
As part of a major investment to improve productivity, American Standard required a system that could shrink wrap shower enclosures and doors.
To accommodate such large and bulky products, YPS supplied a 2.6m wide sleeve sealer and shrink tunnel, which was so large that the equipment had to be supplied in five parts and re-built on site before it was operational.
The standard specification was upgraded in a number of areas to accommodate packs up to a maximum weight of 80 kilos while providing the best presentation possible.
Due to the width of film required, the weight of each roll is relatively high. To ensure that the top roll of film can be easily fitted onto the machine a unique hoist system has been provided.
YPS fought off strong competition to win this order. Stuart Bullock, senior operations manager American Standards, explained:
'We chose YPS because of their attention to detail and commitment to after sales backup and service, with the inclusion of a service contract over and above the warranty'.
Glyn Johnson, YPS sales director continued:
“The fact that we were flexible enough to be able to take four weeks off the initial lead time has helped enormously.”
