Double Express for Yorkshire Packaging
Yorkshire Packaging Systems the leading UK manufacturer of stainless steel shrink wrappers specifically for the dairy industry has recently installed two Rochman shrink wrapping lines into Express Dairies’ Ashby site.
YPS has manufactured heavy duty shrink wrappers for the dairy industry for many years and has various shrink wrapping machines installed at Express sites throughout the country. However, when a contract to shrink wrap milk for McDonald’s was won last year, time was of the essence.
Due to the small size and relatively light weight of each individual bottle, a modified Rochman shrink wrapping machine was deemed suitable and was available within the required lead time.
The shrink wrap equipment supplied, consisted of a stainless steel side feed sleeve sealer and shrink tunnel complete with upgraded IP65 electrical controls. YPS fitted a bespoke standard infeed control system to ensure that the packs entered the collation area in a controlled manner.
The result was a very tight transit pack, consisting of 20 individual bottles of milk in a 4x5 trayless format, shrink wrapped at speeds in excess of 200 bottles a minute.
David Johnson, YPS managing director commented:
“ This is the first Rochman shrink wrap machine we have supplied to the dairy industry. This means that dairies now have a greater choice between our own manufactured shrink wrappers and Rochman shrink wrap machines with our own bespoke handling systems.”
Following the success of this line, three months later a full YPS manufactured heavy duty shrink wrapper was installed for shrink wrapping larger pints, litres and two litres in collations of 2x5 and 2x3. The SS120 is capable of shrink wrapping at speeds in excess of 150 containers of milk per minute.
As Richard Lake, chief engineer at Express’s Ashby dairy explained:
“ Yorkshire Packaging Systems’ expertise in our industry really helped us to get into production at very short notice. Both shrink wrap lines have been totally reliable as well as the backup and service”.
