At Yorkshire Packaging we have just installed a unique two metre wide side feed sleeve sealer into the Fence based factory of Panaz Ltd.
Panaz are leading designers and manufacturers of flame retardant fabrics for the international healthcare, hospitality and marine contract industries. They supply large rolls of fabrics all over the world.
Looking for an efficient packaging method
Until recently, all their fabrics were placed into bags by hand. As the company’s sales were growing rapidly, they sought a more efficient packaging method and looked into shrink-wrapping their fabric rolls.
After consultation YPS supplied what is at the moment the largest sleeve wrapper in the UK - a two metre wide side feed sleeve wrapper, together with a standard double chamber shrink tunnel.
A unique customised sleeve wrapper
Panaz’s new shrink wrapping system is unique and it is not all down to size.
The sleeve wrapper automatically detects the diameter of each roll and accordingly adjusts the way each pack is sealed to provide the tightest possible bag around the product before shrinking. This allows to feed random products while achieving the best presentation possible.
What’s more, the direction of product flow through the system is unique and specifically suited to this product. While the packs are cylindrical and sealed wide edge leading through the sleeve wrapper, they are presented to the shrink tunnel narrow edge leading. Whilst virtually unique, this shrink wrapping method provides the best presentation possible for this type of product.
The shrink wrapping system was also upgraded in specific areas, such as the infeed belt, pusher system and shrink tunnel to cope with the weight of the product.
Alain Dilworth, Panaz’s Operations Manager, explained 'YPS was the logical choice because they were the most attentive to detail and the easiest to deal with during the initial trial process. Having local service engineers was also a big factor. Now the equipment is on site, it has performed beyond expectation and we are extremely pleased with Rochman shrink wrapping equipment and YPS’.
As Glyn Johnson, YPS Sales Director explained “Backup and service is often over looked as a given when purchasing capital equipment. From my experience this varies widely from vendor to vendor and is something YPS prides itself on”.
