Triple success from TOTAL 2004

Yorkshire Packaging Systems Ltd has recently installed three specially modified Rochman side feed sleeve wrappers into the Redditch-based factory of Contract Foods Ltd.

Contract Foods Ltd is the country’s leading contract manufacturer of dry powder food products and a major food contract packer for some leading brands.

As part of a major investment to improve capacity, the company required a machine that could switch efficiently and effectively between wrapping trayed and trayless collations of milk.

As YPS manufactures a range of heavy duty stainless steel shrink wrappers to wrap trayless collations of milk, a ready made solution existed in the form of a pack clamp and pack counter. This system ensures that packs enter the collation area in a controlled manner and even round packs, which can be notoriously difficult, can be handled with ease.

The equipment supplied consisted of three Rochman fully automatic side feed sleeve sealers and shrink tunnels. The machines were specially modified to be able to switch between a variety of trayed and trayless collations at the push of a button, providing absolute flexibility.

YPS received the order at the TOTAL 2004 show, fighting off strong competition from other exhibitors. As Jon Cheswick, operations director Contract Foods Ltd. explained:

“We chose YPS from many vendors primarily because of their ability to provide a standard proven modification, which provided us with a totally flexible piece of equipment as well as improved build quality and reliability.”

Although the initial order was for two lines, Contract Foods was so pleased with the order that within four weeks of the initial installation, an order for a third line was confirmed.
