General shrink wrapping machinery questions

How do I choose the right shrink wrapping machinery supplier? Should I just go for the cheapest?

Generally you tend to get what you pay for and so when choosing shrink wrapping equipment which which will last for 5 to 10 years, quite often it is not the absolute cheapest supplier you should consider but the supplier that provides the best overall value when machine specifications and ongoing backup and support are considered.

There are many important factors to consider when choosing a shrink wrapping machinery supplier and some of the most important factors are listed below :

Can I hire shrink wrapping equipment from YPS prior to purchasing?

Yes. We do operate a scheme where equipment can be hired prior to purchase so that the hire charges are deducted from the price making it no more expensive to purchase shrink wrapping equipment this way.

YES you can!

Backup and Support Questions

Are all warranties on shrink wrapping equipment the same?

NO! A guarantee is only ever as good as the vendor who supplies it and this can vary widely from vendor to vendor. Also, ensure any warranty includes parts and labour which surprisingly is not always the case.

YPS has four directly employed service engineers on the road which means that should there ever be a need to call upon a warranty you can be assured of a FAST response typically same or next day.

This is a key requirement when considering a machine supplier because you will have bought a machine to do a specific job and so if it does break down for what ever reason you do not want your production stopped waiting for either a spare part or an engineer.

Why is backup and support so important when you buy a shrink wrapping machine?

Backup and support is important because you need to have absolute security that if you have an issue of any description then it will be resolved quickly .

Downtime costs money and so you need to have the peace of mind of on site backup if required as well as access to UK held spare parts.

Purchasing a shrink wrapping machine is often a 5 to 10 year decision so the vendor you buy from is often as important as the equipment itself.

Do you keep spare parts on the shelf in the UK?

YES ! All possible spare parts are kept in our stock, so what ever you might require you can be absolutely assured that you will not be kept waiting for anything that might be required.

What is a service contract?

A service contract is designed to provide preventative maintenance in much the same way as having your car serviced every 10,000 miles.

If you didn't service your car, then you would have problems and so the same principle applies to shrink wrapping equipment.

A regular serviced piece of shrink wrapping equipment will provide not only a substantially improved machine life, but also minimise or even eliminate potential break down situations.

YPS are able to provide service contracts cover to virtually any make of shrink wrapping equipment from 'L' sealers, side sealers, sleeve sealers whether they are manual or fully automatic.

Why are service contracts included with new shrink wrapping machinery?

A service contract is included with any new shrink wrapping equipment supplied by YPS and it is important to realise that this is in addition to a full parts and labour warranty.

If you have a warranty issue, which while rare, can happen, then you would be covered with an immediate lighting fast response to rectify any issue.

The service contract is included as our means of providing more peace of mind with regard to backup and support. No vendor will ever admit to bad backup and support in the form of delays for a service engineer because they haven't employed enough or a delay in spare parts because they don't hold the stock on their shelves.

You only find out about bad service when it is too late and so we include a service contract free of charge with any equipment for the first year as our way of showing our commitment to ongoing backup and support.

A service contract is based on number of visits and not time and so quite often an inclusive free of charge service contract can be extended without cost for a longer period than a year.

In addition as a service contract holder, whether purchased separately or included with a shrink wrap machine purchase, it entitles the holder to a 15% discount on any additional spares or service work including consumable items.

How do I contact someone out of hours?

We are always happy to provide the mobile phone numbers of all our engineers if required. Considering 80% of all technical queries can be at least identified over the phone, having the ability to contact the engineer who installed your equipment can reduce response times.

How long does the warranty last on my new shrink wrapper?

Typically our warranties on shrink wrapping equipment are 12 months and include all parts and labour. This can be extended if required.

What happens when the warranty expires on my new shrink wrapper?

Nothing, you will continue to have the security of backup and support for the lifetime of the equipment.

You can take out the option of extending the warranty if you wish and exact pricing would be supplied at the end of the initial warranty period.

Will you ever charge for telephone backup and support?

NEVER ! Surprisingly some companies do try and charge for this type of backup, again on the basis that around 80% of any issues can be at least identified over the telephone.

Whether you bought your shrink wrapper from YPS or not, if you needed technical assistance we would always try to help, so there will never be a charge for technical help over the telephone.

How fast is a typical call out response?

Typically we respond to over 95% of any request with an engineer on site within 24 hours. Therefore if we were to get a call in the morning there would be a very high chance an engineer would be on site the same day.

If the call came in the afternoon then there would be a near 100% chance we would have an engineer on site the following day, quite often from 6.00am.

Shrink Film Questions

Why do you have different grades of polyolefin shrink films?

We have different grades of polyolefin shrink films because there are so many different types of shrink wrapping equipment and so many differing applications and so one grade of polyolefin shrink film would never cover all these possibilities.

What is your best grade of polyolefin shrink film and why?

Certainly our most popular grade of polyolefin shrink film by a margin is our Bollore BY high performance polyolefin shrink film.

This shrink film has unique properties in terms of having the highest shrink ratio of any film currently on the market coupled with a shrink temperature which is around 30 degrees lower than comparable films.

This means it has a very wide 'processing window' providing very consistent results and making it relatively easy to run on the vast majority of shrink wrappers currently available today.

This polyolefin shrink film also has 'hot slip' properties making it incredibly easy to pack products into outer cartons straight of the packing line while the product is still warm. Almost all other films are 'tacky' when still hot and so can cause the shrink film to tear when packing products against each other in outer cartons.

Do you offer a call off order facility?

YES ! We currently have a 13,000 square foot warehouse full of Bollore Polyolefin Shrink Films and so we are always happy to provide a call off order facility.

How quickly is film delivered?

Because we keep very high stocks of our polyolefin shrink films we are able to despatch virtually all orders direct from stock.

Next Day delivery is standard in the North Of England with a standard 2-3 day service provided for the rest of the country. This can be upgraded to Next Day anywhere in the country if required.
